Overview:

The main objective of the program is to improve the level of Russian language proficiency and develop speaking skills.


Each learning session is a complex lesson which provides for:


- teaching the main language activities;

- doing exercises for retention of phonetic, lexical, and grammatical material;

- developing students’ knowledge of Russian history and culture.

Course Outline


During the 1-week short-term course in 20 hours of classes, a trainee will get acquainted with Russian sounds and letters, master about 100 Russian words, including their gender. Also he will learn how to meet new people, say hello and goodbye, ask simple questions in shops using standard phrases, read, and understand by ear messages of up to 30 words, and write down what he can say.


During the 2- weeks short-term course in 40 hours of classes, a trainee will learn to communicate in standard speech situations in the dormitory, in transport, at the university, in the dining room, in the library, master about 200 Russian words and learn to use them not only in the nominative, but also in the accusative and prepositional cases. Also he will learn how to use verbs in the present tense, necessary for communication in different situations, read, and understand by ear messages of up to 60 words, and write down what he can say.


During the 3- weeks short-term course in 60 hours of classes, a trainee will learn to communicate in variable speech situations in the dormitory, in transport, at the university, in the dining room, in the library, master about 300 Russian words and learn to use them in the nominative, accusative, prepositional, dative, instrumental, and genitive cases in separate meanings. Also he will learn how to use verbs in the present, past, and future tenses, necessary for communication in different situations, read, and understand by ear messages of up to 90 words, and record what he can say, in particular, write brief SMS messages and emails.

Course Teachers


Classes in the Russian language are conducted by qualified professors of SPbU with a philological degree in Russian as a foreign language.

Learning Outcome


Upon completion of the program, trainees will be able to start a conversation and keep it going, frame and ask a question, and pronounce a monologue. They will learn how to draw up letters, read, and understand the texts based on the learned language material, and gain local knowledge of Russia.


Upon completion of the course and after passing certification, trainees collect a standard certificate of SPbU.
