Notary Services and Legalisation

Notary services

Most commonly demanded is translation of the following documents with notary certification:

• A diploma, an academic transcript or a school graduation certificate for entering a foreign higher educational institution;

• A passport, a driving licence, an employment record book or education documents for employment;

• Documents for visa obtainment;

• Documents for registration at a place of residence;

• A birth certificate, a passport and statements for marriage;

• Documents for conduct of court proceedings or submission to tax authorities;

• Accounting records, charter documents and powers of attorney.

Translation of foreign documents

Translation of foreign citizens' documents with notary certification is required for their submission to state authorities (e.g. Directorate of the Federal Migration Service (UFMS), Visa Registration Department (OVIR), Universities, registry authorities (ZAGS), tax inspection, pension fund, etc.) In these cases, original documents issued in countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention, or countries with which the Russian Federation has no agreements on cancellation of legalisation, shall be subject to the procedure of consular legalisation or be apostilled. Lack of legalisation does not restrict translation or notary certification - however, it may result in non-acceptance of a document by authorities in the Russian Federation

Why is it Important?

Acquiring a notarized translation is important when fulfilling the formal requirements of an institution or government. In some scenarios, you will not be able to access certain services or attend institutions if you do have a notarized translation.

Significantly, notarized translations are specifically required by certain foreign governments and it is important that you verify with the organization you are engaging with to ensure that a notarized translation is required
