Overview

North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov (NWSMU) was founded on October 12, 2011 as a result of the merger of the two oldest educational medical institutions in Russia -

St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and St. Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I.I. Mechnikov.

The founder of the University is the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

The activity of the University is based on close cooperation and coordination of educational, clinical and research activities - this allows training competent specialists who have modern knowledge and are able to apply it in practice

Tuition Fees


The tuition fee for the academic year 2022/23 is the following:


General Medicine (in Russian) - 331 000 rub.

General Medicine (partially in English) - 420 500 rub.

Preventive Medicine (in Russian) - 283 100 rub.

Dentistry (in Russian) - 409 700 rub.

Pediatrics (in Russian) - 261 900 rub.

*The amounts of tuition fee and costs for accommodation are corrected annually in line with the inflation rate

Admission Process

To apply for the first year of Bachelor’s / Specialist’s / Master’s / Postgraduate studies, a foreign citizen has to submit the following documents:


  1. High school certificate or diploma (with examination results or transcript) or Secondary professional (or vocational) education diploma (with transcripts) + Consular legalization/Apostille (if necessary) and notarized translation into Russian.*If the previous credentials were obtained in Russia, the candidate should submit one of the following documents: Certificate of secondary (complete) general education (with final grade list and examination results) or Secondary professional education diploma (with supplement).
  2. Passport copy + visa copy (if available) + passport notarized translation (if passport data is not duplicated in Russian)
  3. Application form
  4. Application to the President of FEFU
  5. Consent on Applicant’s Personal Data Processing over 18 years old / under 18 years old
  6. Consent on Enrollment

Entrance Tests


Entrance tests are conducted in English in the form of distance testing.

The results of the entrance tests are evaluated on a 100-point scale.

There are two entrance tests for the first year of study:

  • for the applicants with secondary education: Chemistry and Biology
  • for the applicants with secondary professional education and/or higher education: Human Physiology and Human Anatomy.

Duration of each entrance test is 2 hours (120 minutes).

For each entrance test there is a set minimum number of points that confirms the successful completion of the entrance test – 50 points.


Applicants who have not passed the entrance test because of the illness or other circumstances confirmed by appropriate documents (a temporary disability list, a medical certificate, a certificate from another university from which it follows that the day of the entrance test in this university coincides with the day of the entrance test at the University) are allowed to take the entrance test

on a back-up day.

Accomodation





During the entrance examinations, foreign applicants arriving on a visa can stay in the University dormitory at 47/45 Piskarevsky Ave. The hostel consists of units with 8-9 rooms, where 2-3 persons live in a room. There is a kitchen, showers and toilets in a unit. As well as they are provided with bedclothes. The Contract for hostel accommodation concluded between entrant and the University regulates the order of payment, the rights and duties of the parties, responsibility of the parties. Accommodation at the University hostel is possible under conditions of 100 % advance payment according to the price list for applicants and after health check-up in the University health center




The cost of accommodation in a dormitory for foreign citizens:

1. For applicants (until they are enrolled to study) – 150 rubles/day

2. For students of the preparatory programmes – 2 900 rubles/month

Payment for accommodation shall be made for the entire period of study in the preparatory programmes.

3. For foreign students on a fee-based tuition (persons enrolled by the Rector’s order as students) – 2 900 rubles/month

Students of 1-6 years of study pay for accommodation 17,400 rubles for a semester (6 months) or (optionally) 34,800 rubles for a year (12 months).

4. Foreign students on a state-funded tuition (foreign citizens who have arrived by referral from the Ministry of Education and Science) shall be enrolled by the Rector’s order as students from the date of arrival to study. The cost of accommodation is 550 rubles/month. Accommodation is paid for the entire calendar year and costs 6,600 rubles
